This week we have our guest blogger, Ashley Blasi, O.D.,  finishing her series on “Mistakes I have made”  when she transitioned from optometry student to new OD.

Mistake 3 – Middle of the Pack

It is easy to become stuck into a routine.  The profession of optometry is always evolving. New technology and treatment protocols are being introduced on a daily basis.  Stay in-tuned with the journals, read the AOA updates and discuss with your colleagues cases you have encountered.  Your patient’s deserve an optometrist that is giving them the best standard of care and you owe it to yourself.  Continually push yourself to be better whether it be meeting once a month with other optometrists to discuss cases, becoming a Fellow of the Academy, writing a published article or giving presentations.  Do something that keeps your mind sharp.

I am continually learning from my past mistakes.  I would not be where I am today without embracing my faults and pushing on to the future.
