As you contemplate hiring someone, consider what it would be like to let them go. The longer an individual is with your practice the greater the emotional tie. We may not want to admit that we are emotionally tied, but we are. Emotions can cloud judgement resulting in a delayed decision to let someone go. Hiring friends and family can seem like a great idea initially, especially when trying to fill a position with good individuals, but can be damaging to the relationship and overall moral of the office. If you can’t fire, then don’t hire.
